Abraham, Martin and John--- Dion

With Memorial Day weekend upon us and the fact I have this blog and website, I thought now is a great time to tell my opinions of Memorial Day and some other holidays.
I hate that people think it is a great 3 day weekend for drinking and partying, cookouts and getting together to have the kids be shuffled off to play while parents sit, gab, play horseshoes and drink.

Memorial Day was not created for these activities.

Unfortunately every Holiday that has been created to be close to a weekend and creates a 3 or 4 day weekend, have been ruined by people who turn them into weekend parties.

Memorial Day is a day of remembering. Not just the serviceman who died for our fine country, but the times ALL Americans had to go through to get this country where we are today.  Remembering is the key. Do you talk about your past on Memorial Day or just party?
Do you remember the people in your lives that have given their lives for YOU?

Dion's song Abraham, Martin and john hits the nail on the head. He wrote it to memorialize 5 outstanding countrymen who have changed this country and were all killed before the change could take place. I enjoy remembering those 5

And my father, who died in Vietnam in 1969.

Labor day is another weekend holiday that everyone seems to just get that last camping trip in. But do you recall WHY that holiday takes place? most do not.

Thanksgiving. always on a Thursday, many people get the whole weekend off. Yes we go to grandma's or Mom's for the big meal, but do you actually THANK the people around you and THANK the people that the Holiday is for?

I love Holidays, I love having the time off from work, I just hate that no one cares WHY we have the time off anymore.

Please remember this Memorial Day, that's what it is for.

Thank you.
